What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
The colon or large intestine is a hollow, muscular tube like organ, approximately 5 feet long, and 2 ½” in diameter. It forms the end portion of the digestive tract, and moves waste by involuntary wavelike contractions called peristalsis. The colon’s primary functions are to absorb water and electrolytes, to synthesize valuable nutrients (such as vitamins B & K), and to prepare and store fecal waste prior to elimination. The beneficial flora in the colon also help protect the body from infection and disease. It is said that 60-70% of our immune system tissue resides in the colon and intestines.
Colon hydrotherapy is the gentle infusion of water into the colon to cleanse the colon of accumulated waste material, gas, mucous, undigested food and toxins. It helps improve muscle tone of the colon, facilitating the natural peristaltic action necessary for efficient removal of waste and absorption of nutrients. Toxic wastes can be the root cause of a wide variety of different health concerns.

How is a colon hydrotherapy treatment given?
A colon hydrotherapy treatment is given in a private room with a trained colon hydrotherapist, who fully appreciates the sensitivity of the session, thereby helping the client feel at ease with the process. The client lies comfortably on the table, fully draped during the course of the session. The client self inserts a disposable hygienic speculum in the rectum. Water flows into the colon via a small fresh water tube attached to the speculum, and waste leaves the colon through a larger evacuation tube, where it is emptied directly into the sewer System, like flushing a toilet. Because of this “closed system” there is no odor, no mess, or fuss and privacy & dignity are not compromised. You will go through a series of water fills and emptying during each treatment as the therapist manipulates your colon to help break down the old, dry fecal matter. The therapist remains in the room throughout the procedure, listening to the clients life issues & how they got to this point, while working with the client on various breathing and massage techniques to enhance the process.
-
How long does it take to receive a colon hydrotherapy treatment?
The first session may take 45 minutes to an hour or so, as a detailed client history form is completed and reviewed. The sessions after that vary according to the individual’s needs and response, but usually last from 45 minutes to an hour at most.
-
Is colon therapy embarrassing?
No. Your Professional Certified therapist does this all day long, day after day. They love helping people with these difficulties as they themselves went through it and chose this career so they can help others like someone helped them! No mess, no fuss, no odor! In fact, it’s a very relaxing experience. Strangely, some people fall asleep during a session. You are completely covered during the entire procedure, except for the insertion of the tube, which takes a few seconds.
-
Is the procedure painful?
NO! Most of the process is mild and gentle leaving you with a wonderfully light and empty feeling afterwards. Rarely, but on occasion, colon muscles will contract suddenly and expel a considerable amount of liquid and waste into the rectum. The resulting contraction may feel like cramping or gas pressure in the rectum. But the moment you release this old fecal matter, you feel good.
-
Can one become dependent on colon therapy?
No. Actually, one of its benefits is that it tones the colon muscle, so it will stop performing sluggishly. Your colon is an organ as well as a muscle! If you don’t go to the gym or work out your muscles, how will you run a marathon or move heavy furniture without hurting yourself? The same goes for the colon! When we remove the roadblocks from the colon, while working the muscle at the same time, it will eventually start contracting on its own, like it’s supposed to! Look at a baby or even a 3 year old! They eat and poop, eat and poop! If their poops are double the size of your adult poop, you needed to start colon cleansing yesterday! Once we clean all the fecal impactions out of your colon
-
Will one cleansing completely empty the colon?
No. Often the waste is very hard and deeply lodged in the colon, therefore a a series of treatments is often required to sufficiently soften and loosen it. Depending on the condition of the colon, it can often take between 4-20+ treatments to achieve a thorough cleanse. Each person will differ in their needs and responses, as well as in their personal objectives. If you would like to do a mild colon cleanse it is recommended to begin by booking 2 treatments back to back (on consecutive days). Often the colon is dry and dehydrated and will absorb much of the water during the first treatment. You will get some out, but it will need to soak overnight until your second session. The fecal impactions absorb the access water over the first night and the second session brings even More waste during the second treatment. Following the 2nd treatment, your therapist will work with you to assess your progress and to help you determine a treatment plan which accommodates your needs and objectives. Experiencing a thorough colon cleanse can take the average, healthy person anywhere from 4-10 sessions depending on their condition.
For a more thorough intense colon cleanse you can schedule 4 or 5 treatments in a row to clean out the colon much quicker and feel better sooner. The hydration from consistent treatments back to back helps the encrusted fecal plaque peel off the wall quickly and efficiently. Removing the toxins and wastes from your the body will help you feel better and function better.

Why is colon health so important?
The colon, along with the skin, kidneys, and lungs, is a major organ of elimination of toxins and wastes. If bowel movements are irregular, the waste products and toxins can build up. These accumulated poisons are often re-absorbed into the bloodstream, where they may be carried to other tissues and organs in the body, compromising our health. What are some of the problems associated with colon toxicity? Autointoxication is the process where the body poisons itself on its own toxic juices. If the colon is toxic, the body can be toxic, this can contribute to a variety of different problems that can be associated with colon toxicity. Some possible signs of colon toxicity can include: bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, leaky gut syndrome, colitis, fatigue, depression, anxiety, poor memory, weakened immune system, skin problems, lower back pain, excess weight, bad breath, coated tongue and body odor.

How can I tell if I would benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy?
If we eat three meals a day, we should be having three bowel movements per day. Most people eliminate on average once per day, so we must ask ourselves what is happening to our other 2 daily meals. Even if you are having 3 bowel movements per day, you may still be having incomplete bowel movements due to accumulation of impacted fecal matter. If your poops are getting skinny, liquid or rabbit pellets, it's Time to start getting colon therapy! Everyday, we are exposed to toxins in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and whatever we’re drinking. Our modern lifestyles with refined, processed & low fiber diets, usually filled with high salt, sugar & Preservatives are helping our bodies to function to par. We are slowly losing the great function of all our organs when these toxic burdens continue to be absorbed into our bodies, blood, organs, brain, etc, causing us to be so sick! Not to mention our lack of exercise and increased levels of Stress, which contribute to our toxic load. If the elimination systems are under-active and the toxins accumulate faster than can be eliminated, the body’s defenses will become compromised. We are our own ecosystem & if we don’t keep our insides clean, we are in for a Big, yet Bad Surprise!
-
Will I lose weight?
Although colon hydrotherapy should not be undertaken solely as a weight loss technique, most clients do report the benefit of some weight loss due to riding the body of excess poundage in the form of accumulated waste. When the colon is clean and able to function efficiently, overall digestion, absorption of nutrients and metabolism also improves. Is colon hydrotherapy habit forming or can a person become dependent on it? Many people find just the opposite to be true. Unlike enemas, laxatives and suppositories, which can be highly habit forming, properly administered colon hydrotherapy tones and conditions the bowel so that it is better able to function on its own. As with everything, however, moderation is key. Your Colon Hydrotherapist can provide recommendations regarding the frequency of sessions, as well as helpful suggestions to assist with improved bowel function outside of colon hydrotherapy.
-
Can colon therapy wash away all the bacteria, even the good?
The friendly bacteria can only live in an alkaline environment, whereas the harmful ones thrive in an acidic environment. Most people, due to years of modern & improper eating habits, lack of exercise, and poor elimination have an acidic colon. So, it’s helpful to flush away the bacteria in an acidic colon. The great benefit of the cleansing program is to change the environment from acidic to Alkaline. Cleaning out the colon helps to rid the colon, organs & blood from harmful toxins and helps to rebuild the microbiome naturally as your colon now has a good environment to thrive in!

How do you improve the function of your colon?
Learn proper food combining. Make sure 50 percent of your food intake is raw. These foods should be fresh, organically grown, and in season from your local area. Get a wide variety, but eat smaller quantities. Drink six to eight glasses of water daily, 1 to 1 ½ hours before meals or two hours after meals. Do not drink with your meals. Try not to chew gum, it steals your digestive enzymes. Chew your food properly by slowing down when eating. Reduce stress and tension by exercising daily and getting the proper amount of sleep. Avoid intestinal overloading by responding to the call of nature immediately. Do not put off having a bowel movement due to embarrassment of whose house you are in. If you do not go when it’s ready to come out, it can form into a fecal impaction and then others will accumulate on top of those and the cycle starts all over again.
